Your LinkedIn profile is critical, if you’re looking for leads or new opportunities.
The land of milk and honey, it certainly ain’t.
But if you’re neglecting your LinkedIn, then it will be your downfall – because it still represents the best place for helpful connections, information, viable leads and new roles if you’re in the market for them.
My last few roles have been found on LinkedIn. The first hurdles to getting those jobs were leaped over by my eyeball-grabbing and effective bio. Not to mention my linked portfolio and CV.
The majority of my freelance work is the same tune, just with a different hook. My bio helps, but it’s the regular content that snaps people out of their scrolling reverie and lets them know I can provide the service they need.
Namely, the right words, in the right place.
In amongst these threads of gold on LinkedIn, you’re going to have to put up with a fair amount of rubbish though. There’s no such thing as perfection you see – and LinkedIn is the same story.
For every great post you read that you should absolutely react to – you’re going to read at least two posts that make you want to rip your eyeballs out in fury.

There’s patronizing posts that tell you what you should be doing in order to make a million in 3 nanoseconds.
There are posts that are so full of self-importance, that it is mightily surprising that the subject of these posts doesn’t float away, filled with hot air and ego.
There are posts that are cries for attention.
And there are plenty of posts that are cleverly rolled in glitter – but a turd is still a turd, no matter how shiny it might be.
It is infuriating, but it isn’t bad enough to veer away from the platform.
Because like it or not, it still has the most informative people. It still has thousands of jobs posted daily on it.
And it still is the best pond to dip your rod in when you’re fishing for clients.
You can certainly help yourself by drifting away from the flock and saying something a little bit differently.
You can come up with a bio that lets everyone know how good you are at what you do, without simply listing your conquests like a bragging curriculum vitae.
